History of Gradall Excavator

Above on the page some GRADALL Excavator PDF Manuals free download.

The GRADALL brand is world renowned for its telescopic boom excavator.

The patent for the invention was registered in 1944, although it is believed that the history of the brand began 20 years earlier.

In 1920, the brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda emigrated from Holland to Cleveland (Ohio) and immediately got a job as builders of residential and commercial buildings.

After 5 years, the brothers founded their own company, which specialized in the construction of roads, bridges and the laying of communications.

At that time, the construction industry lived on manual labor, and there was a shortage of workers.

In the late 1930s, many US factories were hiring people to produce military weapons, and the trend intensified. This is what prompted the Ferwerda brothers to design a machine that would replace manual labor and perform tasks more efficiently.

This is how the world's first telescopic excavator was born.

Today GRADALL manufactures three types of telescopic excavators:

- caterpillar (used in rough terrain, on rocky and sandy soils);

- wheeled (characterized by increased cross-country ability on dirt roads, there are versions for working in mines, tunnels and on a rail chassis);

- on a reinforced Freightliner truck chassis (the car is capable of accelerating to 80 km / h).

The GRADALL triangular telescopic boom is equipped with a unique swivel mechanism that allows the bucket to rotate around a vertical axis parallel to the ground.

Thanks to this feature, the GRADALL equipment is able to work effectively in confined spaces.

Boom extension and turns are controlled by a ride control.

Manufacturers have provided for a number of special attachments for GRADALL excavators, including: quick-detachable adapters, buckets of various configurations, grader knives, hydraulic breakers, mulchers, hydraulic shears, mower-shredders, additional hydraulics, rippers, drum grabs, knives for pruning the crown of trees, tools for deepening the bottom of reservoirs.

The boom extension, which is also an optional equipment, allows GRADALL excavators to work efficiently within a radius of 14 m.
